Salty, vinegar, french fries in the park. Little roller coasters for little hearts, beating after dark. Fun houses, haunted ones too, mysterious and big. I'm standing there, so small, frail like a twig. Gold fish trapped in little bowls; living prizes. I'm afraid of the looming clowns with their disguises. Mom's hand covering mine, candy apple in the other, Idora Park, an autumn night, and my mother.

Mountain laurel whisper in my ear remind me of some other day, once a year. Color all that touches you, give yourself away. So small your time, so real for a while. Stay. I've dried your petals because I can't let go. At night your perfume paints my dreams you know. Where do you sleep when you've given up this place? I'll be winding down paths-some steps to retrace.

You said I was born to be misunderstood, I said I was born with the cord around my neck. Guess it's still strangling my soul, still pulling me back real good. How different things would have been if my purple skin had given into pale. All this pain could have hit the earth like some meteor destined to fail. I could have kept that noose and held my breath. She should have taken my strength, all that was left. How much did I really give and what solace have I created? She copped out on me early and proved all was ill-fated. If she's crying raindrops at night and sleeping on the milky way, I hope she's still holding on because I've got to see her some day.
